LETTER FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Dear Friends,
I’ m proud to share Central Asia Institute’ s 2024 Impact Report with you. Each year we publish this report to celebrate the lifechanging impacts your kindness and generosity make possible in remote corners of the globe.
In 2024, Central Asia Institute provided nearly 38,000 children and adults with high-quality programs. We supported more than 16,500 students( primarily girls), over 1,000 teachers( mostly females), and 200 female entrepreneurs, among others. We continued our longterm support for 300 + community schools, ensuring access to quality education and a healthy and safe learning environment through school upgrades, new classrooms, gender-segregated toilets, e-learning facilities, new computer labs, and early childhood education programs. We assisted hundreds of aspiring women in creating sustainable businesses.
However, this report focuses on more than just numbers. Our primary goal is to catalyze transformational changes in individual lives, so as you read, you’ ll see that we also feature a handful of stories that exemplify the core of our mission. Stories about girls like Amina, who went from collecting garbage to help sustain her family to excelling in reading and math at a CAI-supported community school in northern Afghanistan, and women like Davlatbibi who attended a CAI-sponsored women’ s entrepreneurship program in Tajikistan, and who now, at the age of 66, is running her own business and earning an income for the first time.
These changes would not be possible without the generosity of people like you. Last year, 4,980 donors from all over the United States( and abroad) invested in our work, many of whom have been dedicated supporters for years, if not decades. As an organization that receives no federal funding, we cannot thank you enough for your generous commitment to Amina, Davlatbibi, and many others like them. We’ re so grateful to count on you as a partner in our mission and are excited about all the possibilities that lie ahead.
Warmly,
Alice R. Thomas | Executive Director
