The Miller Family Foundation directed a grant on behalf of Brilliant Miller to Roots Charter High School , Utah ’ s only farm-based school . The school takes students struggling with a typical classroom environment and provides hands-on instruction centered around ecological studies , farming and animal care . Through these innovative teaching methods and authentic problem-solving situations , students are well prepared for postsecondary education and employment and have a stronger sense of community and a deeper understanding of commitment .
