People are the heart of our mission

The places where CAI works to expand educational opportunities are among the corners of the earth that are hardest to reach — beautiful , rugged regions at the top of the world . These are also the places where that opportunity is needed most . At one level , our work there is about building schools , training teachers , funding scholarships , providing vocational education , and helping people from remote communities during times of crisis . At another level , however , it is about much more .
It is about a young Pakistani student named Dilshad , who didn ’ t think she would ever learn to read or write because her mountain village didn ’ t have a school . Now she ’ s learning the alphabet alongside 63 other girls and boys at a community school .
It is about Fakhriya who couldn ’ t find a job in her tiny rural town , so she started her own sewing business after graduating from a CAI-sponsored entrepreneurship training program . Now she earns enough to pay herself and her two employees . “ The training changed my life ,” she said .
And it is about Nasima , a mother of three , who was displaced by the conflict in Afghanistan . Throughout the harsh winter , Nasima kept her children warm and cooked hot meals using emergency supplies from CAI .
At CAI , success stories like these are what drive and inspire us . These stories would not be possible without the generous support of kindhearted people like YOU .
