BEYOND THE CALL
Barry Cammack began his career with Georgia Correctional Industries (GCI) in January 2004 and has served in various roles thought his 15 year career. most recently, he took over vegetable production at the farm at Rogers state Prison (SP).
The farm operations at Rogers SP has faced multiple challenges in recent years, with vegetable production yield declining due to weather and insects. Since taking on his new role, Cammack has more than met expectations in this area and exceeded production goals for fresh vegetables.
During the last three months of fiscal year 2019 (April, May, and June), Cammack was key in the production yield of 318,790 pounds of fresh produce. The produce consisted of broccoli, cabbage, sweet corn, cucumbers, bell peppers, yellow squash, zucchini squash, tomatoes, fresh red potatoes, cantaloupe, and watermelon. The vegetables must be hand harvest, hand washed, and hand boxed for shipment to the food services operations around the state. It is a difficult task to organize and plan the planting, spray, and harvest schedules for this many different types of vegetables.
Barry handles these difficult task in an organized manner with limited help. This tremendous accomplishment shows his dedication and professionalism for his job responsibilities.
