Alan Leach’s journey with the Georgia Department of Corrections began six
years ago, and his accomplishments in that time have been remarkable.
Before holding various roles within the GDC, Alan received his
bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Georgia and
a Master of Divinity from Yale University. He has served as a
Pastor, Real Estate agent, and proudly served in the U.S. Army,
before embarking on his career in corrections.
Alan never set out to work in the corrections field, but
once he began he came to realize that his previous
jobs and experiences had prepared him for a career in
correctional counseling. His career stated at Arrendale
State Prison where he was a Re-entry Specialist, Faith
and Character Counselor, Grievance and TOPPSTEP
Coordinator, ADA Coordinator and Senior Counselor.
Alan worked extremely hard and in 2018 graciously
accepted the position of Chief Counselor, at
Whitworth Women’s facility.
While Alan’s education and accomplishments are
significant, his passion for counseling is what brings
him fulfillment. He strives to be approachable, yet
firm while providing offenders with opportunities
to become successful citizens upon release. Alan
believes his most valuable contributions come from
being a leader, and a team player to his colleagues. He
has served on many different teams but being a part
of the Peer Support team has given him a chance to
provide emotional support to fellow employees, which
he believes is extremely beneficial to those who serve
within the agency.
Alan loves having the opportunity to help others as he guides
them through different circumstances throughout life. He
considers this job not only valuable to others but rewarding for
himself. The Georgia Department of Corrections is grateful to have
such a qualified and passionate counselor on staff.
