support through this programme when tuition discounts for Bahamian faculty and staff are included . Over the last 10 years , we have provided $ 8.5 million in total financial assistance to several hundred Bahamian students .
We also continue to build on our many extra-curricular programmes . Our students have a wide variety of options to pursue their interests , from Model United Nations , Governor General ’ s Youth Award , Mathamagicians , Junior Junkanoo , Spelling Bees , Music and Arts , and a variety of sports , including sailing , tennis , equestrian , soccer , golf and others . We are improving our sports facilities , and the latest additions will be our four multi-purpose and tennis courts , and cross-country running trail .
This year we also saw some changes in the Board . We now have 12 Directors and four Governors , all of whom are closely connected to LCIS , as alumni and / or parents of current and former students . Our Board brings many vital skill sets , including law , finance , investments , education , strategy , marketing , and human resources . We have a number of priorities this coming year that we are working on , not least capacity building of our faculty , but also renewing our strategic plan , and continuing to implement key elements of our master plan for the two campuses . The new Board have already passionately given many , many hours of their time to the school and I sincerely thank all of them .
Finally , next year we will celebrate our school ’ s 60th anniversary , 60 years as a keystone Bahamian institution . If there is one message I can leave you with , it is just as I started this letter . LCIS is our community ’ s school that has grown to become an internationally recognised worldclass educational institution thanks purely to our collective support , funding , time and effort .
