A World-Class Bahamian Institution : A letter from the Chair of the Board

Dear LCIS Community ,
As an alum ( 1973 / 74 ), parent of a current Grade 9 student ( Sasha ) and a former LCIS student ( Oliver , Colgate University ’ 25 ), both of whom started at LCIS in Junior Pre-K , there is no doubt in my mind that our school is a truly excellent , leading educational institution , which continues to go from strength to strength .
I say “ our ” as LCIS is a non-profit school which belongs to our community - to the students , parents , faculty and staff , the wider community , and is an exemplary Bahamian institution . Our purpose is to provide a transformative , challenging and empowering international education for our students , equipping them with the tools and inspiration to go out into a rapidly changing world and make a real difference for the better .
As a non-profit , our “ Return on Investment ” manifests itself through the experience and achievements of our students . 100 % of our tuition and fundraising goes towards hiring and training world-class teachers , creating inspiring programmes for our students , offering scholarships and financial support to Bahamian students , and continuing to enhance our beautiful 23.5 acres of campus across the Lower and Upper schools .
Hiring and retaining world-class teachers is an absolute priority for us and we continue to increase our funding in this regard . Our IB Diploma and Career-Related Programme results over recent years demonstrate the strength of our team . Last year ( and the year before ), 100 % of our graduates passed the IB ( vs . 89 % average across the world ) and our average Diploma score exceeded the global average . A few of our graduates achieved scores of 42 and 43 points out of 45 which ranked them among the top IB students in the world .
Alumni over the past several years have been accepted into top US universities such as Columbia , MIT , Stanford , Princeton , Yale , Cornell , Northeastern , UCLA , Duke and many others . In the UK the list includes St Andrews , Edinburgh , Manchester and Oxford . Our alumni are also studying at top universities in Canada , Europe , Central and South America and further afield . In the last few years , 100 % of our students were accepted into their first-choice institution .
While matriculation to top-listed universities is an important benchmark for many when selecting a school , we also pride ourselves on helping our students find the right post-secondary institution to achieve their goals in a location and within a fiscal envelope that works for them and their family . This is why we now also offer the IB Career-Related Programme ( CP ) that includes our partnership with the Savannah College of Art & Design , and we are exploring further CP partnerships .
We should also be incredibly proud of the many Bahamian students for whom we have been able to provide scholarships and financial aid via our Tuition Assistance Programme . This year , we provided $ 1.2 million in scholarships and financial
Our purpose is to provide a transformative , challenging and empowering international education for our students , equipping them with the tools and inspiration to go out into a rapidly changing world and make a real difference for the better .”
