my opinion, it’s important to talk
to others who gone through
cancer. You’ll have questions
others simply won’t be able to
answer; and you’ll have a lot of
questions. Seek out other fighters.
Attitude is everything, so
keep yours positive. Hopefully
you’ll have great doctors, but if
you don’t, consider finding others. Take someone with you to
your doctor’s appointments. I
know that much of what my surgeon first said to me was drown
out by a sort of white noise that
descended upon me when she
said the word “cancer”.
And finally, laugh! Laugh at the
manager at work who looks at
your bald head and ask “what’s
up with your hair?” Laugh at
yourself for forcing yourself to
listen to Christina Aguilera’s
Beautiful to see how far into the
song you can get without crying. Laugh when you find out
that your head is sweating due
to chemo induced hot flashes,
and not because your head was
always that sweaty and you
never noticed it because you
had hair. And finally, laugh because you’re going to kick
breast cancer’s ass.
