development. From iron and copper to rare earth elements and critical minerals, it plays a key role in securing Europe’ s sustainable future. We are pleased to support this development with solutions tailored to the demands of modern mining.”
With its local presence, Becker is positioned closer to its partners and customers, enabling faster response times, shorter lead times and direct access to technical expertise.
Against the backdrop of increasing digitalisation in mining, Becker says it continues to expand its portfolio of integrated solutions that support safer, more efficient and more connected operations. These include advanced communication infrastructures as well as digital platforms that enable real-time monitoring and datadriven decision making.
Modern mines rely on a growing ecosystem of connected systems, including industrial IoT sensors, automation technologies, environmental monitoring solutions and data analytics platforms. These systems generate large volumes of operational data that must be securely transmitted, processed and transformed into actionable insights.
In this context, digital platforms are becoming increasingly important, with Becker-LASEC’ s smartflow ® platform acting as a central interface, integrating data from multiple sources into a unified system, the company says. This enables real-time monitoring, advanced analytics, digital twin applications and predictive maintenance, supporting improved operational transparency and more efficient production processes.
At the same time, Becker is further developing its capabilities in the field of artificial intelligence. Solutions such as MineView AI combine sensor data with intelligent analytics to support applications including equipment monitoring, process optimisation and safety-related use cases. By leveraging AI-based insights, operators can better understand operational patterns and identify optimisation potential across the value chain.
Reliable connectivity remains a key enabler for digital mining applications, Becker says. Communication networks ensure that machines, sensors and personnel remain connected across both surface and underground operations, supporting applications such as remote equipment operation, fleet management, environmental monitoring and real-time safety systems.
In this context, Becker Mining Systems has been collaborating with Ericsson since 2020 to develop robust 4G and 5G connectivity solutions for underground environments. This collaboration forms part of a broader strategy to enable connected mining operations and support the integration of digital technologies.
Data-driven metal recovery
Mining operations increasingly need better visibility into ore variability before material reaches the processing plant. Even when a feed stream appears uniform, lowergrade material and waste dilution is always present. Without early detection, this fact affects feed quality, process stability and overall efficiency – particularly the case when part of the feed comes from existing low-grade ore stockpiles to maintain adequate tonnages fed through the mill.
A verification campaign at a chrome mine displayed how IMA Engineering’ s Fast Conveyor Analyzer( FCA, pictured) can support real-time ore feed control and detect lower-grade material directly on the conveyor.
During the test campaign, chromiumbearing material was measured on the conveyor with the FCA and then sampled manually for laboratory comparison. The campaign covered 15 measured sample sets and more than 1.3 t of sampled material. The measurement time was reduced to 15 seconds to better match the process conditions.
The test results showed that lowergrade material could be identified in the ore stream, according to IMA, with the FCA system working well for below cutoff grade waste material identification.
IMA explained:“ This case highlights the practical value of real-time sensing in ore feed control. By detecting lower-grade material earlier in the process, miners can improve feed consistency and build a stronger basis for concentration.
“ For operations working with variable ore streams, this means:
•“ Better process control;
•“ Improved understanding of feed composition to reduce dilution; and
•“ A more data-driven approach to managing metal recovery.”
