OILS & LUBRICANTS
engines are tested in a Wärtsilä engine at the Shell Technology Centre in Hamburg and rigorously tested in Wärtsilä installations in the field . In addition to those used during the engine test procedures , Shell also supplies other products that are part of the factory production process , including hydraulic and gear oils . Shell ’ s Mysella , Argina and Gadinia ranges of engine oils , for example , have been developed to provide top class engine cleanliness , enhanced wear protection , long oil life and high system efficiency .
The partnership will enable Wärtsilä and Shell to continue to strengthen their engine oil offerings , enabling a wider global supply footprint and product portfolio , dedicated team resources and the co-development of lubrication technologies .
“ The fact that our collaboration with Shell dates back to 2007 is testament to the shared values between the two companies ,” said Stefan Nysjö , Vice President of Power Supply at Wärtsilä . “ As the global leader in innovative technologies and lifecycle solutions for the marine and energy markets , we prioritise excellence , speed and reliability in all we do , and I know that Shell is no different . This latest agreement will help solidify our longstanding partnership , helping us to maintain our reputation as an organisation that delivers customer-focused and industry-leading products .”
In December 2022 , wholly-owned subsidiaries of Shell in Switzerland , the UK , US and Sweden completed the acquisition of the Environmentally Considerate Lubricants ( ECLs ) business of the PANOLIN Group . Shell will manufacture , distribute and market the PANOLIN portfolio of ECL products alongside its established Shell Naturelle branded products . The acquisition will strengthen Shell ’ s presence in the mining , construction , agriculture , renewable power , hydropower and offshore wind sectors .
Shell expects to fully integrate the business into its global lubricants business within two years , aligning with Shell ’ s Powering Progress strategy to accelerate the transition to a net-zero emissions energy business by 2050 .
ExxonMobil invests big in India
ExxonMobil recently announced that it is investing nearly INR 900 crore ( US $ 110 million ) to build a lubricant manufacturing plant at the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation ’ s Isambe Industrial Area in Raigad . The company made the announcement in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis , Industry Minister Uday Samant and senior officials from Maharashtra . Once operational , the plant will have the capacity to potentially manufacture 159,000 kilolitres of finished lubricants annually to meet growing domestic demand from industrial sectors such as manufacturing , steel , power , mining , and construction , as well as from passenger and commercial vehicle segments . It is expected to begin operations by the end of 2025 .
“ We are proud to deepen our longstanding commitment to India with our first greenfield investment . Maharashtra is amongst India ’ s largest manufacturing hubs and a natural choice for our lubricant plant thanks to its attractive investment environment ,” said Monte Dobson , Lead Country Manager for ExxonMobil affiliates in India .
In a significant boost to the ‘ Make in India ’ initiative , the plant will source a larger part of the base stocks , additives , and all packaging locally . It is expected to create nearly 1,200 jobs during the construction phase .
“ This is a step change towards bolstering our position as one of India ’ s leading providers of high-performance lubricants . Manufacturing locally will simplify our supply chain , enabling us to serve the needs of our Indian customers and consumers more readily . We are excited about our growing role in supporting the India growth story ,” said Vipin Rana , CEO , ExxonMobil Lubricants Pvt Ltd .
A global leader in lubrication technology , ExxonMobil says its extensive range of Mobilbranded engine oils , greases and lubricants has been advancing energy efficiency , productivity , and sustainability for India ’ s automotive and industrial sectors for decades . The company is also a major supplier of liquefied natural gas to India and its chemical products are widely used in Indian manufacturing .
An all-rounder - Phillips 66 ® Guardol ECT
Phillips 66 ® Guardol ECT ( Emission Compatible Technology ) Diesel Engine Oil with Liquid Titanium protection additive is a premium quality , part-synthetic API CK-4 engine oil developed for use in four-stroke cycle diesel engines designed to meet 2007 and later EPA on-highway exhaust
ExxonMobil recently announced that it is investing nearly $ 110 million to build a lubricant manufacturing plant at the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation ’ s Isambe Industrial Area in Raigad
emissions standards . It is specially formulated for compatibility with exhaust aftertreatment systems using diesel particulate filters ( DPF ), diesel oxidation catalysts ( DOC ) and / or selective catalytic reduction ( SCR ). It is backward serviceable for use in pre-2007 diesel engines .
Guardol ECT with Liquid Titanium is formulated with a blend of synthetic and high-quality Group II base stocks and a proprietary low-SAPS additive package to provide outstanding engine protection in new and older diesel engines . It is fortified with our exclusive Liquid Titanium protection additive for enhanced oxidation resistance and protection against wear . This additive enhancement provides increased engine protection from a strongly bonded titanium shield formed on the surface of critical engine parts , which reduces wear and helps extend component life .
Guardol ECT with Liquid Titanium has excellent soot dispersancy to protect against abrasive wear and soot-induced oil thickening , and to ensure good low-temperature pumpability even with highly soot-laden oil . It provides excellent bearing corrosion protection and protects against sludge and varnish formation . The synthetic blend formulation provides enhanced thermal stability at high temperatures and improved lowtemperature properties compared with conventional diesel engine oils .
Guardol ECT with Liquid Titanium meets or exceeds the performance requirements of API Service Category CK-4 and is approved under the latest OEM specifications for use in low-emission diesel engines . It is backward serviceable for use where earlier API “ C ” category engine oils , or the concurrent earlier OEM specifications , are specified . It is formulated for use in diesel engines operating on diesel fuels with sulfur content up to 500 ppm . IM
