capacity of 7,500 t / d , predominately using a mining method of longhole stoping with paste backfill , supplemented by mechanised cut and fill stoping where appropriate . It will be a fully mechanised operation with the primary access to the mine via the Guajes Tunnel , which , itself , will have a length of approximately 6.5 km , creating an underground connection between the ELG Complex and the Media Luna mine . The ELG site will continue to serve as the base of mine operations , with all production levels accessible from the internal mine ramp .

A recent addition to come out of GHH ’ s South Africa base is the revamped SLP-8 .
This 8-t payload low-profile loader has recently gone through improvements to enhance performance and assist customers in achieving higher productivity and reduced operating costs . After first being delivered to the market in 2019 , units of this super-low-profile LHD have clocked up over 20,000 hours first life , with a further 15,000 hours after rebuild .
Two upgraded SLP-8 units are also out in the field with the company reporting positive feedback – averaging 91 % availability , a mean time before failure of 107 hours and tyre life of 1,210 hours . The company said : “ This is an excellent achievement considering the harsh conditions typically experienced in underground low-profile mines .”
A collaboration between customers and GHH technical experts resulted in a series of product upgrades including an in-house , password-protected control system to allow for OEM back-up support , calibration from the display , multi-level machine fault finding and troubleshooting . This LHD now also has integrated bucket weighing , drivetrain component protection , is proximity detection system interface-ready , has Wi-Fi connectivity and machine condition monitoring .
When it comes to maintainability , reliability and reduced downtime , the electrical components and cable reliability on the machine have been significantly improved , and a new cooler pack designed for improved maintainability and performance has been implemented . This comes alongside a number other reliability improvements to make this 8-t superlow-profile loader “ a force to be reckoned with ”, GHH says .
Another recent development across both the SLP-8 and SLP-5.2 range is the locally-designed , Tier 4 Final diesel particulate filter solution , which allows customers to work towards a reduced carbon footprint within the same existing 50 parts per million fuel envelope .
GHH Mining Machines has typically focused on serving the southern African market , yet recent orders of multiple EU Stage V LF-7s from a customer in Europe has strengthen its global ties . At the same time , the company continues to grow in the southern Africa chrome and PGM space with its super-low-profile range .
