Berco goes digital new technological
solutions for improving
undercarriage
performance on the
Berco, at Bauma 2019, launched digital solutions
that, it said, could improve the lifetime of its
undercarriage components for tracked vehicles,
on top of reducing operating costs for owners.
The company, now part of the Forged
Technologies group of thyssenkrupp Components
Technology, is using digital solutions during the
manufacturing process to guarantee better
performance of its track chains and provide
customers with tools to improve stock and
operational efficiency, it said.
“We believe that digital solutions can bring to
our customers more transparency and efficiency,
because decisions are better taken through data
analysis,” Piero Bruno, Berco CEO, said.
The undercarriage on track machinery is often
subject to severe wear in certain applications,
including mining, bringing with it significant cost
for owners of said machinery. To improve the
situation, Berco has launched Bopis Life, a cloud-
based undercarriage measuring solution that
allows customers to immediately diagnose its
undercarriage lifetime and performance and be
able to improve maintenance costs and stocks, it
said.
“Wear data are collected in the field using an
ultrasonic device and uploaded to the platform
field,” Berco said.

on the lubricated track
chains, developing a
digitalised
manufacturing system
that, it says, guarantees
better quality and
reliability with less friction on mechanical
components and less wear.
“[The] digital assembling system acquires and
manages the assembly data during the process
and establishes the optimal closing point of the
section being assembled (ongoing control),”
Berco said.
The new system ensures the optimal assembly
process, avoiding situations of excess or a lack of
press fit through a mathematical algorithm
developed in collaboration with Ferrara
University. “The manual setup of the control
system has been totally eliminated,” Berco said.

the setup time is reduced and the need for
human intervention is eliminated.
“With the Digital Assembling method, we
obtained a very high guarantee of quality and
reliability of the products. The process becomes
repeatable by a standard assembly procedure
and is not man-dependent,” Berco said.
Bruno concluded: “We are aiming to bring to
our undercarriage business the data-driven mind
set of our automotive business, focusing on
