Liberty and Cape Canaveral in the US, the CN Tower in Canada, The Shard in London, Abraj Al- Bait Towers in Makkah and the Eiffel Tower in Paris. Even the Pope travelled in an Alimak hoist when he addressed 600,000 people in Caracas in 1996.
Alimak Hek’ s industrial range of elevators are also installed in many diverse and interesting structures. These include the Parliament House flag pole in Australia, where two rack and pinion elevators have remained in operation for over 25 years and Halley Survey Base in Antarctica, where an Alimak freight elevator withstands temperatures of-50 ° C. There are even five special elevators installed in the world’ s largest and highest-energy particle accelerator, the CERN Large Hadron Collider.
However, Alimak Hek’ s achievements do not end there. Thousands of explosion-proof elevators have been installed on offshore and onshore applications all over the world. Access problems to the Channel Tunnel were solved with the help of three Alimak hoists; there are also close to 3,000 Alimak elevators in use at port cranes in almost 100 countries throughout the world, 37 elevators installed at the Nesher Ramla cement plant in Israel and two elevators provide access to transmission towers along the Amazon River in Brazil, near the Equator.
While still based in Sweden, Alimak Hek is today represented on six continents and has
factories in Changshu, China as well as Skellefteå, Sweden where it all began. The company will mark this milestone year with a celebratory event for staff and family, to be held in Skellefteå.
In mining, the Alimak elevator is one solution for underground as well as above ground mining industry applications, such as pelletising plants, smelters, concentrators, and other ore processing plants.
The main wire rope hoist is suitable for carrying heavy loads at relatively fast speeds and is the primary means of vertical access for men and materials in an underground mine. Alimak rack and pinion elevators are ideally suited for providing the secondary, emergency vertical access required by mine safety regulations.
Alimak elevators are also used to provide a simple and economical means of connecting different levels further out in the tunnel system and for transporting men and material between the levels and the stopes. The elevator can be installed easily, and the cost is moderate because no machine room is needed. At crushing plants, where the operator has to control feeders, bins, conveyors, etc, which are installed at different levels, the Alimak elevator may offer the best solution for rapid movement between levels. Alimak Hek also supports in the construction of mining facilities with temporary vertical access solutions.
ABB Ability™ Performance Optimization for hoists is incorporated into the new ABB Ability Collaborative Operations Center in Västerås, Sweden; it provides optimisation and technical support for customers’ hoist systems to reduce unplanned stoppages and increase system safety and reliability
ABB Ability Performance Optimization for hoists is a remote-enabled, software-assisted service that monitors mine hoists 24 / 7. It applies automatic data gathering and analysis to expedite identification of issues to address that improve performance. The service connects customers to ABB experts for further evaluation and troubleshooting of hoist performance through the new ABB Ability Collaborative Operations Center in Västerås. The service analyses the safety brake system, the hoist supervision and the normal hoist operation to ensure that hoists are running safely and reliably.

The growing world population and increasing volume of people moving to cities creates an ongoing need for new infrastructure and a continuous demand for mined resources. This is good news for the mining industry. However, mine sites present some of the most challenging production environments, with extreme conditions, heavy loading and the need to
