GROUND SUPPORT
or sulphate-free accelerators and a geopolymer substitute for cement have the potential for bringing stepwise change to the industry.
Normet also envisions a day“ when we have a global industry standard( subject to local variances) for shotcrete in the underground environment, adopting the best practices across the mining and tunnelling industries.”

During recent years, shotcreting has become one of the most applied rocksupport methods in mining. Deriving from the so called NATM( New Austrian Tunnelling Method) in tunnelling, shotcreting has gained place in almost every mining environment.
GTA Maschinensysteme with its NormLifter product line, is a well-known supplier of machines for concrete reinforcement installation in tunnelling. Having a vast background in shotcreting on monorail bound machines in both mining and tunnelling, the company says“ it was only logical to extend the product range to shotcreting vehicles. The newly developed ShotCreter 1715 features a number of innovations which makes shotcreting safer and more economic.”

The built-in Schwing concrete pump P820 is able to supply constantly up to 30 m ³/ h which is more than sufficient for most applications.“ Uninterrupted flow is combined with an exactly tunable dosing system for the accelerator. The system enables the nozzle-man to produce constant and even layers with tight tolerances while both the concrete and the expensive accelerator won’ t be wasted. The ShotCreter 1715 is self-sufficient with an onboard screw-type compressor supplying a flow of 12.5m ³/ min.”
The shotcreting boom is specially designed to avoid mechanical oscillations during changes of movement. It is controlled by an ergonomically designed remote control panel, which allows the nozzle-man to exactly manoeuvre the boom without time delay. The boom is two-fold telescopic, allowing a vertical reach up to 17 m and a horizontal reach up to 15 m.
“ A very important feature in mining is high performance at minimal outer dimensions. The GTA ShotCreter 1715 combines remarkable small dimensions and outstanding performance. In fact with 7.6 m in length and 2.3 m in width and together with all-wheel-steering it can negotiate even the tightest bends in mining galleries. All-wheel drive and high ground clearance allow the unit to drive on the most undulating roadways. Special emphasis is put on a safe and easy working environment. All concrete pipe connections are of fast coupling type for easy cleaning. State-of-the-art safety features like stability control with and without support jibs extended, surround cameras, condition monitoring etc are obvious elements.”
The GTA ShotCreter 1715 is also described as perfectly outbalanced. Even without the support jibs extended the boom can be swivelled out from driving to operating position. For spraying operation the support jibs can be extended separately which allows the machine to be set up closely to the sidewalls.
To facilitate documentation of the shotcrete layer and to assist the nozzle-man in spraying the right thickness of concrete, an electronic monitoring system will be available from 2018. IM
