MINEXPO 2_proof 24/08/2016 08:09 Page 7 MINEXPO PREVIEW II Craig Lamarque, Division Manager, Hitachi Mining Division - Americas. “Hitachi develops technologies and solutions that are integrated into the equipment, which allows us to deliver an unmatched value to customers. That’s because this approach optimises productivity, reduces overall costs and makes it easier for mine operations to succeed in this challenging environment, which is our ultimate goal in serving our customers.” An EX-6 series mining excavator and an AC-3 series electric drive rigid frame hauler will be on display. Beyond equipment, Hitachi will highlight a number of ‘smart iron’ technology innovations designed to help mines become more efficient and productive. Examples of this include the company’s peripheral vision support system and its autonomous haulage and trolley assist technologies. During the show, Hitachi will also launch a new customer tool that is designed to enhance the availability and accessibility of mining excavator parts for the Americas’ market. “Hitachi Ltd, our parent company, is active in a variety of industries including everything from transportation to robotics,” said Lamarque. “This breadth of expertise gives us the ability to vertically integrate technologies and solutions and provide customers with products and services that are more efficient, reliable and durable to the core.” This year’s show sets a stage for Wenco to launch its latest solutions that make mining simpler, smarter, and safer – particularly Wenco System 6. “It’s just incredible to see the innovations our engineers keep coming up with,” said Phil Walshe, President and CEO of Wenco. “We’re really staying on the cutting edge of technology to help our customers perform better and better.” The sixth edition of Wenco’s mine performance suite brings major updates to its core applications. It also adds several new solutions designed to address the most crucial issues in mining today — including collision avoidance, elearning, and business intelligence. Perhaps most exciting is the next evolution of the Fleet Awareness safety system — Fleet Awareness V2X. More than just another fleet safety tool, Fleet Awareness V2X functions as a true collision avoidance system. Wenco has taken the road vehicle safety system developed by Hitachi and custom fitted it for the challenges of mining. Sensors with peer-to-peer technology gather live data from the mine. Then, the system processes it through logic based on guidelines from the Earth Moving Equipment Safety Round Table. In split-seconds, Fleet Awareness V2X knows the likelihood of a collision and it sounds an alarm to keep operators safe — but without false positives, only when necessary. Two of Wenco’s legacy solutions have also received significant updates that will debut at MINExpo. The tyre management system TireMax has been refitted from the ground up – refreshing the interface, adding inventory functions, and extending integration with third-party tyre pressure monitoring systems. At the same time, the asset health management system ReadyLine has also gotten new functions. Now, the system offers virtual signals. Mines can track machine performance and configure alarms based on a blend of two or more OEM sensors. This makes preventative maintenance more proactive. Wenco representatives will show demos of these systems and more in the Hitachi Construction Machinery pavilion throughout the trade show. Focusing on total operating economy for mining operators, Scania will display a comprehensive range of products and services. “For mining enthusiasts like us, MINExpo is a very exciting event,” says Björn Winblad, Head of Scania Mining. “It’s particularly exciting for Scania because I believe our offerings could have a huge positive impact on our mining customers’ bottom line.” Scania is particularly looking forward to outlining Scania Site Optimisation to potential customers. This constitutes a framework of tools and methods designed to support mining operators in improving their total operating economy.
