Atlas Copco’s Certiq system provides real-time
data, helping equipment owners and operators
to ensure that their machines always perform to
the best of their ability. The new machine
monitoring system is now a standard feature on
the company’s mining equipment. Based on
wireless data transmission, or telematics, it
allows the performance of machines such as
surface or underground drill rigs to be
monitored at any time and from any location
Using the RigScan audit, rigs can be
diagnosed for wear and faults such as blockages
or internal leakages. This service, which is
carried out by Atlas Copco’s certified experts,
involves various high-tech tools, including a
handheld device for thermal imaging. About 500
items are checked and the findings are
diagnosed against pre-set service protocols.
The service has been well received in the US
where it is now routinely used by contractors for
checking the condition of drill rig fleets between
jobs. One example is the mining contractor
Small Mine Development (SMD) of Battle
Mountain, Nevada. SMD used RigScan to determine
the condition of Atlas Copco Boltec rock bolting
rigs that had been standing idle for a period of
time after working non-stop underground.
Mike Schomer, SMD’s Maintenance
Superintendent, commented: “The RigScan
audit helps us get assets we already own to go
back into service so much faster than waiting on
a new rig delivery or sourcing a different one for
remanufacture.”
Bill Xuan, RigScan Product Manager at Atlas
Copco, adds: “As RigScan is nonintrusive it
takes proactive maintenance to the next level.
Our customers in Europe can now use it to
improve maintenance predictability that will
help them to safeguard uptime, and not least,
safety. It’s a great complement to our other
service solutions such as service agreements,
telematics, manufacturing of components and
fluids management.”

Doofor, a Nordic
pioneer in drilling is
launching a new
version in the
DF550L/DF560L series
to deliver customers,
it says, “a superior
performance never
seen before.”
Manufactured with
premium quality
components and
innovative in-house
technology, the new
DF560L-2M is now the
most powerful rock
drill available in the
Doofor line. “It not
only complements the
existing product line but also enhances
customer’s business in future”, says Kalle
Kuusento, CEO of Doofor.
Doofor has brought its innovative model
DF560L-2M to the market. “Generally all of our
DF550L/DF560L-series drills have been very
popular. It is no surprise, because these drills
represent the highest quality and excellent
performance in challenging environments. To
meet growing demand for versatile and
exceptionally powerful drills, we designed the
new version in the series”, says Kuusento.
The DF560L-2M is a high frequency hydraulic
rock drill designed for underground production:
mining, bolting and grouting. The DF560L-2M
has superb functionality, being equipped with
two powerful 160 cm3 Danfoss OMS-series
rotation motors as standard. In total, the drifter
provides 20 kW of percussion power. According
to Kuusento, two motors make a clear difference
in performance by expanding the areas of use.
With the DF560L-2M, it is possible to maintain
high rotation speed in rock drilling
complemented with the powerful torque that is
needed, for example, in sedimentary rock
drilling. The DF560L-2M model is suitable for
many applications such as excavator drill
attachments, drill rigs and bolting systems. The
drill has a mass of 192 kg.
The optimal maximum hole diameter for the
DF560L-2M is 89 mm in hard rock, such as
granite. With softer rock, for example
sandstone, a larger hole diameter
could be achieved.
Furthermore, the model has a very low
overhead, just 84 mm from the drill centre line.
Kuusento lists many advantages: “Low profile
allows closer and deeper drilling, up to the roof
and straighter according to targeted line. As a
result, systematic progress saves time and
money. Low physical profile also gives more
possibilities in drill rig design. We look forward
to the Doofor DF560L-2M drifter exceeding our
clients' wishes.”
The capacity of the rock drill is based on
technology and its components’ properties.
Doofor is innovative due to constant product
implementation, customer oriented development
and know-how in drilling technology. “Our
mission is to become the best drill manufacturer
in world and it drives us to invent new solutions
on a daily basis,” Kuusento continues.
This rock drill has a separated flushing head
that allows utilisation of different flushing
media such as water or air or air-water -mist. As
an option, Doofor has invented a new BLTflushing head with enhanced, close-fitted
properties. It is made of stainless steel and
designed for challenging environments to
protect the drill especially when water and even
cement is used. In operation, the BLT-flushing
head prevents water leaking inside the drill and
causing damage. Therefore the drill can perform
with full capacity with relatively low
maintenance costs.
Being innovative, all Doofor drills are
adjustable according to client's needs. The
DF560L-2M rock drill can be equipped with R38,
T38 and T45 shank adapters and when a BLTflushing head is used, also female FR28 and
FR32 shank adapters are available. For tap hole
drilling, the drill can be equipped with heat
resistant sealing.
Quality management sits strongly in Doofor
philosophy through the whole production
process from drafting to product delivery. “Our
local manufacture process in Tampere region,
Finland , guarantees a homogenous quality in
our products - therefore we can assure the
highest quality in each and every drill we sell,”
Kuusento explains. Doofor uses only premium
components selected from certified business
partners such as Danfoss, among others.
“Endurance, high performance and reliability
are key properties in Doofor drills. The final
Doofor says “endurance, high performance and reliability are key properties of the new DF560L-2M
hydraulic rock drill”
