NORDIC SUPPLIER FOCUS_proof 27/04/2016 10:20 Page 1 NORDIC SUPPLIER FOCUS Devico on site Nordic knowhow John Chadwick looks at the latest from this innovative group of suppliers evico says it is receiving accolades for its BBT line of survey instruments: DeviShot and Devicore BBT. “A recent satisfaction survey showed outstanding appreciation results. “The Devico new line of products focuses on performance, user friendliness, high impact resistance, few repairs and high quality craftsmanship. To maintain its leadership in the field, Devico offers the highest manufacturing standard and quality and is always backed by its 24 months repair warranty.” One DeviShot client (David Torres, Gerente Operacion, Versa Perforacione, Mexico) says: “So rugged, we are amazed how the tool is easy to run and is maintenance free. The BBT wireless performance is quick, drillers love the tool, they tried it and they keep it. The titanium barrel is unbreakable, the data is precise and secure for the client.” The company says it sees more “smarter exploration. When seeking to maximise exploration budgets, Directional Core Drilling (DCD) is often the solution. Devico offers a Directional Core Drilling service worldwide. Many drilling and mining companies have utilised DCD to increase drilling precision, reach multiple remote drilling targets with continuous coring, save time and cost, make wiser decisions, and successfully improve profitability.” Devico has been selected as one of ten finalists for the national Norwegian Export Award for 2016. The prize is awarded by the Norwegian Export Credit Guarantee Agency (GIEK). The President of the Jury, John G. Bernander says: “The purpose of the award is to reward exporters who have managed to build value in Norway through markets abroad.’’ D Underground mining ABB is to provide four hoists to the Venetia mine, South Africa’s largest producer of diamonds. It will supply one double drum hoist for personnel and material conveyance, two friction hoists for production, and one single drum hoist for service duty. ABB will provide the design, supply, manufacture, installation and commissioning of all four hoists, including hoist mechanicals, motors, and electrical drive and control, all certified to the highest safety integrity levels (SIL). The installation will commence in July 2018. All four hoists are due to be operational in April 2020. “With mineral deposits becoming increasingly difficult to access, increasing productivity while ensuring safety and reliability are key customer requirements,” said Roger Bailey, Managing Director of ABB’s Process Industries business. “ABB is the only supplier with the unique capability to design, supply, install and provide long-term service and support of entire mine hoist systems. Leadership in supplying power and automation for site is a key component of ABB’s next level strategy." Atlas Copco introduced its Meyco range of concrete sprayers during Bauma 2016, as examined in the March issue in the Bauma Preview article. That article also reported on its new machine monitoring system, Certiq. Aiming for fast and accurate grade control, keys to effective mineral extraction and mining productivity and profitability, Atlas Copco Secoroc says it has opted to extend its RC hammer range with the COP RC45 – which it claims is “the smallest, lightest and fastest reverse circulation hammer ever.” The 120 mm COP RC45 reverse circulation hammer features a revolutionary new design. “Since it is 40% shorter than the nearest competitor and more than 30% lighter than most hammers doing the same job, one man can easily handle the hammer by himself.” The COP RC45 hammer also works with an extremely high impact frequency – up to 52 Hz at 30 bar. This is possible thanks to a unique air chamber design. Much smaller air chambers build up pressure faster and make the piston strike at a much faster rate. The marginally lower impact force is more than compensated for by the much higher impact frequency. Tests have shows excellent penetration rates in all types of rock – also in difficult rock formations. Like the RC 50, the COP RC45 hammer features Atlas Copco Secoroc’s unique tube retention system. This design allows fast and easy service, and tubes are quickly replaced without disassembling the hammer. The company says this means less time servicing the hammer, and more time producing samples. Atlas Copco Secoroc says it has all the technical features to help users reach their sampling goals but while handling a much lighter weight. “In response to requests from customers around the world, upgrades have now been made making the new FlexiROC T20 R the best drill rig in its class of compact, radio remote controlled drill rigs,” says Product Manager Marcus Leü. Much effort has been put into making good use of the commonality between parts. This results in the use of well proven technology and quality components. “For the customer this translates to a reliable drill rig with maximised uptime,” Atlas Copco says. A completely new rig control system that consists of electrical and hydraulic components as well as Radio Remote Control (RRC) has been installed. By using well proven technology from drill rigs such as the FlexiROC T25 R & T30 R, functionality and quality are assured, according to the company. Other examples of upgrades are; new cylinder feed (BMH 2000) in three different lengths, new reinforced drill steel support, new hose routing with three bulkheads, new front facing feed holder and better service access. The new FlexiROC T20 R Mark II has now also been equipped with the COP 1435 rock drill. It has almost 30% higher impact energy and 30% higher rotation torque than the previous model. With an impact power of 14 kW together with smooth cylinder feed action, the drilling performance has increased by up to 40%. The RigScan service from Atlas Copco, which allows the condition of mining equipment to be determined without dismantling or removing components, is now available in Europe. Introduced in North America in 2014, RigScan’s official European launch was at Bauma in April. MAY 2016 | International Mining 49
