ORE SORTING AND GRAVITY
Cleaner concentrate and tail pipe launder arrangement, together with Multotec distributors
rubber-lined counterparts. Now, chromite producers are taking note of their benefits.
This includes Northam Chrome Producers, the first chromite miner to put Multotec’ s pipe launders to the test, and Multotec’ s Graeme Smith reports that the company will be supplying an additional 400 running m to another undisclosed chromite producer shortly.
The pipe launders were supplied as part of a spiral retrofit project at Northam Chrome’ s recovery plant. A total of 72 of Multotec’ s HX5 and HX3 spirals were designed, manufactured and installed boosting the plant’ s recoveries by as much as 6 %.
The plant was using conventional steel rubberlined pipe launders that had been designed initially for the previously installed spirals and were also due for replacement.
Marenica Energy has developed a process to concentrate uranium prior to leaching. The process is applicable to surficial uranium deposits. Marenica says it“ dramatically reduces OPEX / CAPEX compared to conventional technology. It is a patented process developed on the low-grade Marenica deposit. The process is called U-pgrade™ and may be applicable to copper, tungsten, iron ore, etc with similar gangue characteristics to surficial uranium.
The U-pgrade process is a major breakthrough
for processing surficial uranium deposits. It is applicable to surficial uranium deposits with a particular emphasis on calcrete-hosted deposits. On ore samples from the Marenica uranium project it has been shown to deliver: n An upgrade in uranium concentration of some 50 times at a recovery of over > 70 % by rejecting nearly 99 % of the waste material( gangue) n Increase the leach feed grade from 94 ppm to
> 5,000 ppm U 3O 8 n Internal cost estimates have indicated a
potential reduction in process operating costs using U-pgrade of between 50 % and 70 % and a reduction in capital costs of between 30 % and 50 % compared to conventional heap leach technology n Similar results in seawater, which is particularly beneficial in a dry environment such as Namibia n Reduced social and environmental impact per pound of annual production compared to‘ conventional’ technology.
