Marty Friedman: Chicago has always been one
of my favorite cities, even from the first time I
played there very early in my career. There’s
just something about the attitude. They’ve
always been very supportive of anything I’ve
done in my career and it’s always been a very
welcomed stop. My band is all Japanese and
they have heard about Chicago. It’s a major
city but it’s not the type of thing like a New
York or a Los Angeles where a lot of tourists
get to go. So when my band played in Chicago
last time, they were just bragging to everybody
here in Japan about having to get to go to
Chicago. It’s really special. Japanese tourists
all go to Hawaii or Los Angeles or maybe San
Francisco, but Chicago gives them bragging
rights. I showed those guys a good Italian beef
in Chicago, the type of thing you can’t get out-
side of Chicago much less in Japan. We have
good memories and it’s a place that I really
can’t wait to get back to.

MJ: Ha! That’s pretty cool. And South Park is
always cool. I think we’ve gotten a South Park
mention, actually, and The Simpsons, too –
there’s been a few times that Foreigner tracks
were played on The Simpsons, although I can’t
remember any specifics – it’s been a while.
And I’m pretty sure that we’ve even been ref-
