Budget Friendly
Meals
As the worldwide pandemic continues,
we are urged to continue to be budget
conscious, which for us cooks and chefs
means more budget friendly meals.
I don’t know about you guys but I know
my bunch will soon be tired of our local
budget friendly favourites like corn beef
and rice, roti and talkarie, rice, dhal and
tomato choka, stew chicken and peas,
pelau and the likes.
With that in mind we’ve put together
a few budget friendly options that are
different and encourages zero waste.
We’ve put together what a week worth of
grocery items and dinner ideas would be
like and an average cost for the week.
We hope that these ideas inspire you to
be creative with your meals while being
budget and health conscious.
Grocery List for the Week
• 1 lb minced beef - $28
• 1 lb chicken breast - $28
• 1 lb beef cheese steak - $32
• 1 lb elbow or shells pasta - $10
• 1 lb spaghetti - $10
• 1 pack carrots - $5
• 1 lb onions - $4
• 1 lb sweet peppers - $10
• 1 can corn - $9
• 1 pack garlic - $5
• 2 bundle chadon beni - $10
• 1 bag pimento - $10
• 1 lb channa - $10
• 1 lb red beans - $10
• 1 lb black eye peas - $10
• 1 can pasta sauce - $20
Approximately $200 makes 5 meals (each
meal feeds an average of 4 adults or family
of 5/6 with kids)
That’s an average of $40 per meal to feed a
family of 4, $40 would get you one box of
food outside so that’s some decent savings.
If we averaged $10 per person on average
that’s a total savings per meal of $120.
***please note that basic pantry items,
commonly found in the household, were
not included in our grocery list (salt, black
pepper, powdered seasonings, oil, rice
butter etc.)
Let’s get cooking!
