In this very powerful verse, Allah is reassuring the messenger (SAW) that He has not abandoned him. The word ‘ma’ means “not the case at all’, not just ‘I haven’t’, this is a reassurance that if ever you think it, know that is not the case at all. Subhan Allah! Even the word used for abandon or leave is not the permanent form of the word it is a loving reference, Subhan Allah! The word ‘Rabbuka’ is also used specifically to show the love he has for the messenger (SAW). This verse emulates the love that Allah has for the Rasool (SAW) and that translates to us as well, because we are the Ummah of the Rasool (SAW). Allah loves us and will never forsake us. Allah wants us to succeed! A perfect message for those feeling sad or depressed. Walal-aakhiratu khairul laka minal-oola And the Hereafter is better for you than the first [life]. Feeling sad or depressed can make us feel stuck, like there is nothing better to come. Here Allah tells us that the next life is certainly better than this one, so obey! As difficult as it is to fight during this low period, don’t stop, because what is in store for us is better, the reward for our patience and commitment is better, and Allah promises. The use of the word ‘Walal’ indicates certainty (‘I swear’ ‘For sure’), so Allah is saying that what is to come is better than what came before. Scholars say that the strength of the language indicates the audience and the word “oola” could mean both this life (Dunya) or it could mean an earlier struggle. The latter would refer to the difficulties the prophet (SAW) faced in his earlier days of Prophethood and Allah has promised him that better days are coming. This verse helps us look forward to attaining our place in Jannah and helps us look at any problems in our lives as temporary tests of our faith from Allah. What better indication to someone who is fed up and stressed out than ‘I will give you’ ‘I will take care of it’ and you will be satisfied or at ease. Subhan Allah! Allah says that we need only call on Him and He will respond. Ask of Him and He will give you. This promise that soon we will get and we will be happy! Subhan Allah! Wa la sawfa y’uteeka rabbuka fatarda And your Lord is going to give you, and you will be satisfied. The word ‘La’ gives an assurance of the future, it emphasizes why you are experiencing this period, this moment. “sawfa” means “soon but not too soon” (a little bit later on – like a middle period), I will give you! Allah doesn’t indicate what he is going to give to the Rasool (SAW). This is an absolute term, meaning there is no limitation to what Allah can give. His giving power is limitless, Subhan Allah! Allah just says He will give and you will be pleased. Our Lord, the most high does not put a cap on what He can or will give to us! We just need to ask and He will give it to us and we will be pleased. Subhan Allah!
