An inflated ego already knows what needs to be done and how to do it. Others' ideas, opinions or approaches are attacked even when actively sought out. Lip service dominates.
Does this behaviour deliver results? Eventually but usually despite it because of the heroics of others. But this way of working, with a bit of effort and different behaviour, could quite easily be avoided. Interestingly enough, ego generally only cares if the project has finished. It has little awareness of the disruptive climate it's created. If awareness does exist, ego defaults to a blame-game, pointing fingers at everyone but itself.
Is it any wonder people don't want to work for or with it?
We all see and experience this type of behaviour at work, in sport, in the wider community and politics. It would be wrong to think it can be stamped out completely.
What is possible however, is to develop an awareness of our own behaviours and observe the affect they have on others. In order to change, this is the place to start.
We can make ego work for us by taking genuine action to change our behaviours then watch what happens to the outcomes.
