Enhancing the Patient Entertainment
Experience 1
How would you describe your Action Learning Project and the difference you hope it will make to advance your organization ’ s mission ( or the field ) and benefit the individuals you serve ?
My Action Learning Project works to enhance the patient experience by implementing TV services throughout the building , and the in-house dialysis center , at little to no cost to our residents / patients . This will benefit our residents in that they will have access to affordable TV service that will make them feel more at home . Our dialysis patients will feel more comfortable having something to entertain them during treatments .

How have the relationships you ’ ve developed as part of your project ( with mentors , partners , stakeholders , etc .) influenced this direction and you as a leader ?
This project has developed my relationships in that it involves all levels of management , and a cross between departments . In building the relationships , I know I have a team and support in order to effectively and successfully implement this initiative . As a leader , I feel I have developed a sense of authority / confidence in executing different phases of the project . By working in a supportive team environment , I am able to accomplish the goals intended by this project .

What have been important turning points for you , in your own learning , as you ’ ve engaged with the action learning process ( you might consider a surprise , insight , setback , or challenge )?
The biggest turning point I ’ ve had to experience with this project is the struggle in managing the time lines of other stakeholders involved . I ’ ve learned that the best way to ensure items are completed on time is to speak with the person directly involved and bring it back to a common goal . If both parties believe in the same goal , and understand its purpose , action items will be completed in a timely manner .

How do you hope your project might unfold in the months and years ahead and what impact do you hope it will have on the field at large ?
I hope this project is fully implemented in the months to come - I see it falling into place smoothly to the point that all resident rooms , and dialysis chairs , will have cable service at little to no cost to the resident / patient . I believe the components of this project could eventually be a model for other facilities that are looking to implement such services .

How has the action learning process in the context of the Leadership Academy experience contributed to your growth as a leader ?
The Action Learning Project has helped my understanding of relationship development and the importance of involving key players . As a leader we must be able to inspire those that work with us . By creating a common goal , everyone can be part of a greater initiative . Using some of the exercises learned from the Leadership Academy has allowed me to implement them into my current routine , and use them as building tools to accomplish the goals of this project . It has made me more confident in my skills to carry out something that has a purpose in the work we do every day .
