IGNITE Leadership Academy Action Learning Project 2016-17 | Página 19

Darius Kirstein Statistical Basics ... 4 (Continued from page 18) How do you hope your project might unfold in the months and years ahead and what impact do you hope it will have on the field at large? Of course, the hope is that the mini-videos are so insightful and entertaining that they will become viral all-stars that people can’t stop watching, and a new global appreciation for knowledge, science and truth ensues. Barring that, I hope that the project will help those who watch them and/or use the accompanying resources get a greater comfort level with some of the basic statistical concepts, find peace with numbers and be more effective users of various resources and systems that are predicated on them. Since many of these tools and measurements are aimed at improvement- quality, financial performance, etc.,- the hope is that the more people there are with familiarity and comfort with the tools, the more effective they will be to achieve the intended improvements leading to such things as better care and stronger finances. If this type of information dissemination seems successful, I would like to apply the experience I gain in making the animations to other communications with members, specifically in helpful mini-tutorials for data products that we develop as well as providing other information in an appealing, accessible way. 5 How has the action learning process in the context of the Leadership Academy experience contributed to your growth as a leader? I think that a large part of that learning process is still ahead of me as I seek out reviews and critiques of video drafts and deal maturely and constructively with the comments, compliments and criticisms that come along with the process. So far, the long solo brainstorming informed by greater self-awareness facilitated by Academy discussions and readings as well as discussions with others to help me more concretely express, explain and hone the concept have been helpful. Without the safety of the new yet trusted relationships with follow Ignitees I would be much less willing to listen, in a real way, to feedback on my thinking and would find it hard to become vulnerable to discuss something that is still so undeveloped. I believe that practice will help in real life situations as well. I found the opportunity to observe others present their ALP ideas as well as the chance to listen to the descriptions and try to provide constructive feedback valuable practice as well. “Congratulations, IGNITE graduates! It is exciting to see how you have applied your talents and learning to give back to your organizations, and to the field of aging and long term care services.” James Clyne President and CEO, LeadingAge New York IGNITE Leadership Academy Action Learning Project 2016-17 19
