LUSITANIA MEDAL
THE LUSITANIA WAS THE LARGEST SHIP AT THE TIME .
The Lusitania medal is a medal created by Karl Goetz who was a German who created the medal in the memory of the incident that happened in the waters surrounding the British . A passenger ship that carried many citizens of British including women and children was attacked and sunk by the German submarine on May 7 , 1915 .
The attack took 1198 passengers and 128 were Americans . The passenger ship was called Lusitania . Lusitania was one of the largest and impressive ship ever built . The medal was named after the ship . On one side of the medal it shows a skeleton selling tickets to passengers of the boat and on the other side It shows the ship sinking .
When it was made Karl Goetz got the date wrong he said the sinking was on May 5 but it was actually on May 7 . The mistake was soon fixed . The Lusitania medal was used as a propaganda tool which means that the Britishers made the medal similar to what karl Goetz made and spread them across britain to tell people about the incident . The medal came in a box including a leaflet that tells more about the incident . When the Brtish sold the boxes they got money and they used that money to help the soldiers .
