tenth anniversary of CIR and focused on the alternative culture with the broadest participation of the artists linked to the underground movement within the urban culture . The extensive exchange of ideas on how to face racism and racial discrimination with community work covered the potential contributions of the popular culture and religiosity . This is a commendable purpose , because such cultural expression often arises from the lower strata of society and has a previous history of success , especially in time of crisis and need for change . The younger generation has then taken the initiative to make known , to raise awareness and to pave the way — in stages of necessary breaks — towards processes of disintegration and political and social problems . There are many examples of the young people as agents of political change , social denunciation , commitment to renewal , and the claiming of the right to difference and otherness , either racial , social , gender-based , or political . Cuba has given examples of the significant role played by these groups to bring to light much of the issues excluded by the official mass media and the censorship , but fortunately the prohibitions and harassment have not prevented the independent and critical thinking that represents the relevance and necessity of free expression . All these realities generate confusion and despair among Cubans . Their frustration and despair is summarized by Ana María López Canino in " The night of the martyrdoms : This house is on sale ," which refers to the constant increasing emigration that offloads the impatience for finding new paths . None of the above prevents the continuity of what Marcia Cairo exposes in " Chronicle of the endless honors ...:" The fanatical cult to the personality that elevates a political leader like Fidel Castro . After more than half a century from his triumph , such a cult “ was unleashed as a contagious disease that managed to affect us all without remedy [ with ] the anticipated celebrations of his 90th birthday and the corresponding sequels ." While addressing the Cuban issue today in " The Silver Bridge : Analysis of a necessary transition in Cuba ," Armando Soler proposes to imagine Cuba " as one of those terrifying bombs , with a digital clock marching backwards , pointing to the increasingly scarce time before deflagration ." In a previous edition of this magazine , José Hugo Fernandez ´ s “ Playing with fire ” addressed the enlightening courage of those who faced the armed forces in the informal market La Cuevita by shouting " Abusers and terrorists " and even “ Down with the dictatorship !” and “ Down with the government !". Although this market is increasingly affected day after day , " here they are in a challenging attitude , showing the innate and indomitable spirit of enterprise ." The author infers the possibility the such rebellions may burst the valves with a popular uprising in Cuba , as it has happened in other parts of the world . Then , Soler asks himself : “ Would it be possible for Cuba a peaceful transition ?”, id est : a State on the way to democracy with clear , precise and distinct institutional steps for carefully getting rid of the totalitarianism and the militarism that have delayed the progress of the nation . With the slightest hope that the expected implosion did not happen , Soler reviews diverse examples of transition in dictatorial regimes : Burma , Eastern Europe and Latin America . While contrasting the particularities of government and opposition in Cuba , the author calls to pay attention to the contemporary cases that did work in order to draw pragmatic conclusions and to take steps of Realpolitik towards the benefit of the people and the social sectors also
