Angie Edell Campos, Director, Organización y Comunicaciones de Ashanti Perú, Red Peruana de Jóvenes Afrodescendientes, participated as a representative of Afro-Peruvian youth at the Twentieth Conferences of the Parties COP20 CMP10 2014. Lessons learned It is not easy to get international institutions and, above all, national ones to take notice of youth initiatives. We do not find ourselves among the State’s priorities; this situation limits our ability to make plans and proposals. Yet, we were able to plan and execute this event with perseverance and conviction. Our brothers and sisters from the provinces, who more deeply feel the consequences of climate change, are a great source of ancestral knowledge. We learned a great deal about their empirical practices; it is important to reevaluate all the knowledge our ancestors have kept alive for so many years. We the youth of Indigenous and AfroDescendant Origins propose changing the system. We proposed and approved acting in parallel fashion on its economic, social and, above all, political aspects, so that we can bring about true change in the environment’s protection. If we don’t do this, we will not be able to bring about true Environmental Change for all. 161
