months, I stopped working and went on a reflection mode, and
ultimately decided to move back to Kenya. It was apparent that
I was more passionate about health and fitness than I was
about my enjoyable IT career. The US had and still has an
abundance of information and experts in the health and fitness
area so it didn't make sense to pursue my passion fulltime
there. Instead, my focus turned to Kenya. There was a market
that needed to be served.
Kenya has been awesome!! One thing that has contributed to
my successful stay this far is that I took time to mentally
prepare myself for the move. I understood that life in Kenya
would not be identical to the life I had in US. I began mentally
coaching myself to remember where I grew up and what
everything was like. I realized that as much as I adapted the
American way of doing things, I could not afford to expect
people and things in Kenya to be at par with what America had
to offer. I had to manage my expectations lest I would have
been miserable.
It also helped a lot that I moved back into my parent’s home.
They are my go-to people when I need anything while traversing the city or dealing with different situations. It also takes the
load off me not having to worry about any overheads such as
rent, utility
