With the welcome addition of the Gonzaga Barry Centre (GBC) the new learning spaces enable a greater degree of collaboration with learning technologies for student learning. Staff and students have had a term to become familiar with the new learning areas and all boarding staff investigated how the area could be used for boarders study on the Sunday before students returned this term.
Each general learning space has been equipped with an Epson data projector connected to the school’s network. There is no need for a dedicated Smartboard since these projectors have the ability for teachers and student to write on the white board electronically and save any written material digitally.
The area is visually appealing with all the panels and cables out of sight and efficiently located in the school designed Multimedia Display Cabinet. The cabinet is mounted on the wall with the school logo adjacent to the whiteboard in each learning space.
The smaller versions of this cabinet are located in the breakout areas next to the Board Room of Level 3 and outside the classrooms of Level 2. They are used to connect laptops to flat screen television for collaborative learning.
In the main presentation area of Level 3 the audio visual is controlled by an iPad wall unit which can be removed and used from the floor during presentations.
During class time, recess, lunch, and before and after school students can be seen working in the new GBC break out areas and the new spaces in the LRC together, sharing ideas, drafting shared documents or working quietly with enhanced WiFi density and coverage.
ICT at Loreto continues to improve and maintain the learning technologies resources to assist student learning. To this end plans are underway to update the learning technology hardware in the rooms adjacent to Level 2 of the Gonzaga Barry Centre.
