Ichthus Newsletter - Spring 2025 Spring 2025 | Page 5

I love helping people to understand the multilayered depths of a Bible passage , or a particular person or topic ( e . g . covenant ), in ways which they haven ’ t before , by speaking about the context , the styles of writing , the history , or drawing together different parts of the Bible ( Old and New Testament ) which deepen understanding of the passage or the person being talked about in ways which people haven ’ t seen before .
What do you see as the most significant challenge for preachers ?
Continuing to find time for serious study to remain abreast of new ideas and fresh revelations about Biblical studies and theology .
Also being prepared to tackle tough issues in their preaching which the Bible highlights such as domestic violence , violence in general , mistaken traditions about who Biblical figures are ( e . g . that there is no Biblical evidence or mention of Mary of Magdalene having anything to do with prostitution ). This all takes courage to do .
What is the most interesting thing you have learnt recently ?
I have been completely awed by a recent MA module on the nature of God . The mystery of how he is both vast beyond our comprehension , and at the same time personal , relational and wanting a daily relationship with each of us and is always Emmanuel - God present with us .
What do you see as the most important piece of work that LWPT and other charities can do to support preachers ?
Continue and expand your tuition grant work , making theological study accessible financially for church leaders and members alike to study and go ever deeper into their knowledge and understanding of the Bible and God .
We love what you are doing to help our students at WTC and would love to see more and more people of all ages and backgrounds in the church study with WTC .
