My contribution is minimal compared to the NHS and the carers
and shoppers for the frail and elderly. I’m discovering how to
really pray. I’m also following the lead of one of my parishioners
who is fasting and praying on Fridays. As a Methodist Minister
I’m learning how to do ministry and related things such as
pastoral care that includes prayer by telephone, email, and post.
In addition, we as Circuit Ministers are trying to understand the
mysterious workings of Zoom in order to set up virtual worship
and Bible study meetings. I’m out of my comfort zone. I much
prefer face to face, preaching from a pulpit, and singing the great
hymns of the church together.
Following the advice of astronaut, Chris Hadfield, I‘ve re-taken
up the hobby of crocheting. A few years ago, I learned how to
combine prayer and this skill together by remembering family
members with every stitch. In the evening, each stitch has become
a prayer for those who work hard to find a solution to this virus.
Each stitch becomes a prayer that God will give wisdom to those
who seek to stem the tide of this present day plague. I know that
the Lord hears and answers prayer, and this is my comfort.
Here is a photograph of the blanket as it’s coming together. It’s not
perfect but neither are my prayers. The only perfection is found
in our Lord Jesus Christ and the belief that He will work even this
sorry situation out for our good according to His riches in glory.

Since ‘lockdown’ we have been meeting for
worship via Zoom. We have a Zoom manager
who records the worship, led by our minister
Malcolm Peacock, with input from members of
the congregation for readings and prayers. We
sing hymns via YouTube clips, direct to our video
worship. Last Sunday 70 people were connected,
sharing Lego / Playmobil Palm Sunday images.
The recorded worship is then edited, a video
version shared on our church’s website and an
audio version is then burnt onto CD for those
who are unable to join in the video sharing. (see
