Trustee Interview : Jane Lloyd
In the second of our new series of interviews , Jane Lloyd , LWPT Trustee , reveals more about her life and work within the church
What led you to accept the role of Trustee at LWPT ?
I saw the piece in Preach magazine which said the organisation wanted to appoint new Trustees . I have had previous experience of being a Trustee , including time as Chair and Trustee of a small national charity , so I felt I might have something to offer . An online conversation with Ian and David took place and I was delighted when they offered me a place on the team .
What do you enjoy most about Preaching ?
I ’ m not sure enjoy is the right word . I am constantly aware of the massive privilege and responsibility involved in bringing God ’ s word to His people and I feel moved and humbled that I have had the opportunity to respond to this call .
I want our congregations to see that God ’ s word is relevant and vibrant and has the power to shape our lives for the better . That is always on my mind as I step up to the pulpit . Whether I achieve it rests with the Holy Spirit .
What do you see as the most significant challenge for Preachers ?
Being truthful to the gospel and bringing the message of salvation in a way that is accessible to a society that has moved away from the traditions of church and chapel .
Jane Lloyd
What are you most looking forward to doing as Trustee ?
Being part of the work LWPT does to support and encourage Preachers .
Which book of the bible do you refer to most for guidance and how does it help you with your day-to-day challenges ?
If I am having one of those times when I feel that all I can do is throw myself at God ’ s feet for help , then it is to the book of Psalms that I will turn . There is always something there to guide and inspire . There is both food for thought and consolation . Every human emotion is examined within its pages , and I never leave without being refreshed .
When it comes to singing in church , how would you describe your level of participation ?
Thoroughly engaged on every level . I love to sing and I most love to sing the praises of my Saviour . We are so privileged to have hymns at our disposal that are packed full of theology . It is wonderful to join my voice with others and know that our worship is bringing blessing . I enjoy the traditional Wesley hymns for their grace and power , and I also have the great pleasure of joining with a group of others in my local chapel to bring a range of modern worship songs to the congregation so that we can be energised and uplifted .
Invest in the next generation of preachers
