Grants Case Study: Henry Alexander
Dear LWPT
I am writing to update you about my last year of ministry and study which you have kindly
supported financially. I have been working as Assistant Minister at St Clement’s Church in
Manchester and studying the seminary course at Crosslands.
The money you have given has gone towards resources and course fees for Crosslands. I am in
my second year of the four year course and spend approximately 12 hours a week studying. The
course year began with an intensive study week which mostly involved lectures on church history
and biblical theology from Tim Chester and Tim Ward. It
also provided a great opportunity to connect with other
students and a good amount of time was spent praying
and worshipping together. A particular highlight of the
programme is the seminar days. All the students in our area
gather together to present their latest assignment and then
we spend time discussing the topic and asking questions.
This has led to great conversations and each time I come
away feeling encouraged, but also hungry to know more of
God’s word. The most recent course event was an intensive
weekend on preaching, particularly focusing on narrative. It
was a useful and valuable time.
I feel incredibly privileged to be able to study on this course.
It has been very well thought through and everything we
study is proving useful in ministry. I am also very thankful
to be constantly having to take what I learn and apply it into
an everyday context. I feel that connecting theological study
with everyday life is a valuable skill in ministry and am
grateful that I am able to practice this through studying ‘on
the job’.
Here are the following things I would appreciate prayer for:
• Balancing work and family life. I have a young family, so with studying and working full-time,
life can be quite full on. Please pray for wisdom in balancing my time well.
• Future ministry opportunities
• That my study would be devotional and not just academic.
Thank you so much for your financial support and prayer. I am most grateful.
Yours in Christ, Henry Alexander
