2025 Murray to Moyne
THE ABA’ s“ Love Almonds” cycling team has raised $ 9,910 after participating in the Murray to Moyne charity bike ride in April. The 520km cycle relay started in Mildura, with stop Saturday night in Hamilton before continuing to Port Fairy. The team of 20 cyclists and three support crew included many past participants, along with several new faces from the industry. The riders were split into four groups and took it in turns completing 30km legs to Hamilton. The night riding through the Grampians is always enjoyable with the headwinds experienced during the day abating. The riders on hearing kangaroos hopping in the bushland in the Grampians are careful to keep eyes peeled in case they venture onto the road. Thankfully the wildlife kept to the bush. On the second day riders chose how much of the 90km distance from Hamilton to Port Fairy they wanted to complete, with many of the team tackling the full distance with the aid of a nice tailwind. The more experienced members in the group struggled to remember when there was a northerly wind on previous Murray to Moyne rides. The team gathered about 10km from Port Fairy and rode the last part into town together along the coastal rode with Gavin McMahon and Nigel Carey leading the way into a strengthening Westerly. Everyone was thrilled to arrive in Port Fairy to a rousing reception from locals, with congratulatory handshakes amongst riders and support crew once the team had reached the finish line. As in past years, the funds raised from this year’ s event will be used to purchase equipment to support those with medical conditions in the almond producing regions. The ABA’ s“ Love Almonds” cycling team would like to thank Select Harvests for again providing their bus for the event, Brett Muller from OMC for driving the bus carrying the recovering riders, while Peter Jealous and Dusty Rhodes were behind the wheel of the support vehicles, ensuring the next
