Blooming marvellous
The bus tours to the Lake Lucas orchard were very popular.
DESPITE the showery weather, Robinvale’ s Mallee Almond Blossom Festival drew a huge crowd on August 17, with attendees travelling from Melbourne and other parts of Australia for the free community run event. ABA CEO Tim Jackson officially opened the festival and used the opportunity to highlight the job opportunities that were available in the industry. There was a huge demand for bus tours and tickets for all six buses were snapped up quickly. This year passengers had the opportunity to wander through the Lake Lucas orchard and take photos. The almond bake off attracted 16 entries. Talitha Brits won the cake section and Kate Morgan claimed first prize in the slices category. The ABA’ s almond chair was also a popular attraction, with hundreds of people stopping for photos throughout the day. Recipe cards, Love Almonds branded tote bags and bee tins filled with roasted almonds were given away from the ABA display area. Processor / marketers Select Harvests and ofi both had stalls at the event, joining a range of other traders and food vendors. Musical acts performed on stage throughout the day, including an ABBA tribute band.
There were lots of people taking photos in the almond blossom. Select Harvests staff pose for a photo in the ABA’ s almond chair.
