ARAW NG DABAW Last March 16, 2014 marked one of the biggest events here in Davao City, my hometown. It is the celebration of "Araw ng Dabaw", a celebration for the establishment of Davao City since 1936. As the name of the festivity implies, it celebrates the 77th anniversary of the city. It scheduled many wonderful events, such as Mutya ng Davao, Agri-Trade Fair, and many more. So what do you think? Isn't it interesting? - Princess Shyne Peña I know someone who is so ravishing, someone who is just so attractive that she doesn’t even need to try to be one. All her pretty wonders never fail to flabbergast anyone. The beauty that she possesses is truly unwonted and undeniably astonishing. All of these lovely descriptions of mine refer to our one and only, God’s most pulchritudinous masterpiece, Mother Earth.Look at the trees above you. Smell the ambrosial of the flowers around you. Close your eyes and feel the wind breeze caressing your skin. Listen closely to the relaxing chirps of the birds. Observing our scenic nature is maybe one of the best things that we should do while we are still alive and breathing. Just by taking a good look of our nature, we’ll realize how mighty our Omnipotent God is. – Jun Candid Dumale UN AMOUR FATAL The home of our most holiness is one of the most elegant-looking structures that ever crossed the eyes of tourists which consider it as one of the most historical landmarks which holds pieces that can be traced way back when the time of the Spanish Colonization took place. It may look old but its looks are what makes it more grand looking and famous. The Basilica De Santo Nino in Cebu City which is famous for holding the Magellan’s cross. As seen in its structures, it was built in our very own homeland with such fascinating designs which perfectly matched the different motifs intended for it to contain. Being religious is one of the Spanish tradition and culture that we’ve inherited from them. Spaniards are religious people that they expanded there territory for the world to know their religion and to widen their Christianity. They baptized many Pilipino people and made them accept the Roman Catholic religion that began in the West. These fair-skinned people held masses which must be attended every Sunday in honor for the Lord, the God that they praise. Upon having masses, they also build churches and one of the most famous churches is the Basilica de Santo Nino. – Andrea Jeanne Abundo DR. JOSE RIZAL On June 19, 1861, José Protasio Rizal Mercado y Alonso Realonda was born in Calamba in the Philippines' Laguna Province. In 1895, Rizal asked for permission to travel to Cuba as an army doctor. His request was approved, but in August 1896, Katipunan, a nationalist Filipino society founded by Andres Bonifacio, revolted. Though he had no ties to the group, and disapproved of its violent methods, Rizal was arrested shortly thereafter. After a show trial, Rizal was convicted of sedition and sentenced to death by firing squad. Rizal's public execution was carried out in Manila on December 30, 1896, when he was 35 years old. His execution created more opposition to Spanish rule.Spain's control of the Philippines ended in 1898, though the country did not gain lasting independence until after World War II. – Kathryn Jan Guma PAGE 22
