As I was reading the letter I could see the pain in my mother’s face and it looked like she was
about to cry but I tried not to pay attention or else I would have. I couldn’t stand to see my
mother like this so I gave her a hug.
“It’s okay”, I said to my mother.
“I can’t do this”, my mother said as she ran to her room crying.
Vinh had overheard everything and she walked in saying “OH MY BUDDHA”.
I didn’t know how to deal with this pain so I decided to go for a walk. I knew it was Wednesday
but I didn’t really care. I needed to let my father out of my mind and the only way to do that was
to be with Bian. Bian and I had been dating for 9 months, it was crazy to think about. I forget all
the worries and tensions when I was with her. She made me feel like it was just us two in the
cruel world.
I walked to her house and I knocked on her door.
“Mrs. Hung, is Bian here”, I asked.
“Yes, would you like to come in or are you taking her on your special walks”, Mrs.Hung said.
“I would be taking her on her special walks” I said.
“Chi”, I heard as Bian was coming to the door.
“Bian, Shall we go”, I said.
“Bye mother”, Bian said.
“Bye Mrs. Hung”, I said.
Bian and I started walking and then I decided I should tell her right now. I grabbed Bian’s hand
and she gave me a curious look her on her face.
“What happened”, Bian said.
“So you know how my father fights the war”, I said.
