FAIRMONT PREPARATORY ACADEMY, ANAHEIM, CA NOVEMBER 2013   collected plums. We worked for nearly two hours. At the same time the other group was making food boxes. This work seemed really simple but it was also very tiring, which tested your care and patience. You should be careful enough to check if the apple is soft or bruised. You should also be patient to do the same work for such a long time and always keep careful. The thing which moved me most was Ms. G's saying, ”When you don't want to eat it, don't put it into the bag.” One apple is not so important for us, but it will be for poor families. In this bag is the essential nutrition for them. Any of your mistakes may cause serious illness. This activity taught me the importance of caring for others. We live in a family, which does need to worry about life, but there are also poor people in the world. They need help and care. What we should do is help them as we can. The work is very tiring, but I enjoyed the experience of being a volunteer and helping others.     Going to the Church: by Nancy Zhang My homestay family is Christian so they go to church on Sunday. I went to the church with Karen to have a look. To my surprise, the church was only a normal house and the people there were having a party, rather than praying. The church is Vineyard in Yorba Linda. I met Karen’s friend at the door of the church. They all hugged Karen and shook hands with me. When I walked into the church, I saw some people singing on the stage that was in front of the church! There was even a band! Karen’s friends came to us and Karen introduced them to me. Some of them had already met me at the barbecue on Monday. They were all kind and friendly people. I guessed today’s theme is praying for the next generation because Karen told me there weren’t so many children in the church before. After saying this, she told me to sit on a chair as she went to the front. Some children stood there. Some adults put their hands on the children’s shoulders and blessed them. Then the band began to sing. People in the church stood up and sang with them. I asked Karen why they put up their hands on each other while singing? She told me they wanted to pray to God. There was a screen on the wall so we could see the lyrics.
