Flood Safety Measures
You can protect yourself from flood hazards by taking the following measures to ensure the safety of life and property after a flood or storm:
● Avoid walking through flowing water, as drowning is the leading cause of flood-related deaths. Even seemingly shallow water can carry enough force to sweep you away.
Know How to Get Information
The Town will have post-storm updates on the website, social media channels and the resident information line. If phone and web services are disrupted, bulletins will be posted daily at 25 sites around Town. Find a printable map of the 25 locations by visiting jupiter. fl. us / Storm.
● Refrain from driving through flooded areas, as more people drown in their cars during floods than anywhere else. Do not drive around road barriers; the road or bridge may be washed away, and canals may not be distinguishable from roads.
● Keep a safe distance from power lines and electrical wires to avoid the risk of electrocution, which is the second leading cause of flood-related fatalities. Be aware that flood waters may also have electricity due to downed power lines.
● Promptly report any downed power lines by contacting Florida Power & Light at 1-800-468-8243 or calling 911 for immediate assistance.
How You Can Help
After a storm, Town staff and other agencies will be out in the community working hard to get things back to normal, and you can help. Easily report flooding, downed trees or other storm damage using the Town’ s JupConnect app. See the table below for details on who to contact for post-storm concerns.
