“Shotgun” Fred Barbecue Showdown
A KCBS sanctioned event serves as a
precursor to the Houston Livestock Show
and Rodeo’s World’s Championship Bar-B-
Que Contest. The Huntsville event features
up to 92 teams with up to $10,000 in
prizes.

Winequest
An elegant evening of fi ne wines from
around the world, hors d’oeuvres, jazz, live
auction and much more. Funds help aid
education, housing and feeding efforts
within Walker County.

MARCH
Sam Houston Birthday
A special ceremony is held each year
to honor General Sam Houston at his
gravesite in Oakwood Cemetery. The event
includes the “Baptized Texan Ceremony.”
When: March 2, 11 a.m.

Herb Festival
A large variety of herbs, perennial,
vegetable and pollinator plants grown by
the Texas Thyme Unit and Herb Society
of America will be for sale. Speakers,
vendors, musicians and artists make for
an interesting event. The event is free and
open to the public.
When: March 28, 8 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Show
Held indoors at the air-conditioned Walker
County Fairgrounds, bringing an antique
vintage and re-purpose wonderland to our
little corner of East Texas.
