to be a drought in locations near Huntsville . “ Willow deserved to have a childhood , so we built Adler Family Toys , so she could have a place to play with friends ,” said Madelyn .
Shane suggested that businesses like Adler Family Toys were aiming to create options for locals and tourists . “ The downtown is full of opportunities , but who wants to walk around when it ’ s all closed ,” asked Shane . “ Kids don ’ t want to go antiquing ,” said Madelyn . The Adlers believe that diversifying options in the historic district will help assure increased foot traffic , and boost tourism receipts .
Adler Family Toys opened in Downtown Huntsville in August of 2023 , providing a base for children of all ages to find a safe place for their imaginations . Toys range from early childhood to nostalgia . Toys at Adler Family Toys mostly are battery-free , with a few game exceptions , making their wares safer for most children .
The store also sells children ’ s clothing , costumes , books , and activities . They also offer space for private costume / themed parties .
The Adlers take part in Downtown Business Association ’ s ( DBA ) “ Sip and Shop ” initiative , being one of the only kid-oriented stores in the area .
Adler Family Toys also partners with the Huntsville Public Library to do story time for children in the store .
Shane and Madelyn have strived to thrive in building a community for Willow , and their youngest son Bear . Adding immeasurably to their success in this goal , are the many supportive friends the Adlers have found in their spiritual community at University Heights Baptist Church , but also at American Flip Factory .
“ Willow has taken up gymnastics , and went all the way to State in it this year ,” said Madelyn .
“ She ( Willow ) has made us proud parents ,” said Shane .
Now closing out their first year in business in Huntsville , the Adler ’ s plan to expand . “ In addition to the toys , parties and photo wall we created , we would like to add a parlor for candy and ice cream ,” said Shane .
Willow appears to be learning entrepreneurship from her parents , as she has setup lemonade stands on some hot days outside the store .
