Human Connections 1 | Page 7

Everyday Life

People everywhere make connections. Not in the sense that we normally think about when hearing the phrase “making connections”. We aren’t all out there trying to get a leg up in the world so that later on all you need to do is make a phone call to the right person and you have the thing you wanted. No, I’m talking about the small conversations you have with strangers on the streets, or the quick conversation about homework you had with your classmate before you went home. Those are all connections people make everyday that last for moments but make all the difference. They show people that out there are others who wonder the same things as you, and aren’t afraid to branch out and talk for a second. Those connections are what keep people human, reminding them that people are out there and that you are never really alone. Talking briefly to someone you don’t know or having a nonsequential conversation about something meaningless with someone you see on a regular basis; those brief connections are a promise that no matter what you feel, there are more people out there feeling and knowing and thinking the things that you are.

Take these two for example, they could be saying anything…

“Did you do your part of the project?”

“I’m so sorry...”

“What! It’s due in two days! It’s half of our history grade!”

“Umm… I can do it before then?”

“Really? You’re going to do a month long project in two days that’s not going to get us failed?”

“I could do it. I really am sorry.”

“Sorry doesn’t really help our grade right now, does it?”
