Cultural Identity on the other hand, is the one’s sense of belonging to a particular culture or group (Lustig, 2013). Lustig states that Cultural Identity are “central, dynamic, and multi-faceted components of one’s self-concept”, that traditions, heritage, language etc. whether internalized or not, becomes part of our identity.
CULTURAL IDENTITY
The difference of the two is further defined by Boski et. Al (2004). They claim that Social Identity is described as a sense of “We-ness” or attachment to a group it belongs to. However, this sense of “we-ness” remains culturally empty. Simply put, social identity is one’s identity can be ever-changing and temporary as it is based on personality, preferences and qualities whilst cultural identity is more permanent and is based on something you cannot simply control or regulate.
