DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CULTURAL IDENTITY AND SOCIAL IDENTITY

4

Social Identity, as by the theory of Tajfel and Turner (1986) is the concept of one’s self based from the group that the person belongs to. According to their theory, that person may have multiple selves or identities associated with their established groups they are affiliated with. This is proven as we humans, act and react based on what the social context is. An example is how a person acts differently when they talk to their friends than they do talking to superiors or parents.
