Finding Your Way

When I was in middle school , I was
determined to be a fire fighter.
Since then, I’ve planned to be a
fashion designer, an interior designer, a music producer, a businesswoman, and a sports photographer.
It wasn’t until after I graduated college that I finally decided what I
wanted to do with my life. In fact, if
you had asked me one year earlier, I
would’ve said I would never become
a teacher.
The fact that students are expected
to decide what they want to do with
the rest of their lives at such a
young age is something intimidating
and scary. You haven’t experienced
enough to know what careers you
might like or dislike. Sure, tests can
show you your strengths, but sometimes our strengths are not what we
enjoy. That being said, there is good
news. It’s okay if you are wrong. It’s
okay if you choose a path that you
find you hate. Ask your teachers
what they studied in school. I got a
degree in Studio Art. Some of your
teachers got a degree in Psychology,
some Business, and some Interior
Design. While your degree is very
important, it is not the end. There
are always other options. If you find
you hate your degree while you are
still in college, universities have
made it much easier to switch programs before graduating. If you find
out you are unhappy after college,
there are plenty of alternative programs or extra schooling you can
