Page 7 HSD Sports & NBA Playoffs By: Abel Mendez With the year coming to a close, Harmony School of Discovery has wrapped up all its sports seasons. With the boys soccer team making it to regionals, all the glory has been bestowed upon them. However, HSD had more than one successful team. Two in fact! The girls volleyball and girls soccer teams get their own fame in this edition. Plus the NBA Playoffs with opinions from the student body on this years exciting playoff brackets. Even though its been a couple of months, it’s still worth remembering that the girls volleyball team came in 4th place at HSD Volleyball Girls Team regionals, this year proved to show much improvement over past years. Even team captains, Jocelyn Mata and Calise Moore, admit that they had low hopes going into the season, they felt like overlooked underdogs. When asked, the team captains credit their success to, “Working hard, listening to our coach, each other, and learning to be coachable.” Poor chemistry caused by internal turmoil was a problem for the team. However, the team captains would not let this phase them. The team persevered and the girls volleyball team triumphed to take 4th in regionals which is the best in HSD history. Everybody knows about the boys soccer team and their epic season, but the girls soccer team earned much deserved glory too. Coming in at 3rd place in the league and just one victory away HSD Soccer Girls Team from taking the second place spot in the league, they deserve recognition for this achievement. Many factors held them back such as having a losing start and lack of funds. But through defeat the team became closer. The team captains’ Leyla Tulumovic and Farah Benamars goal was, “To create more team chemistry”. A mix of high school and middle school students made up the school team which played against challenging opponents such as; Harmony School of Advancement and Bob Hope High School. The end of the season resulted in an impressive record at four wins and four losses, ending the season shy of a regional title. The team has high expectations for next year. NBA Playoff Teams With the semifinal brackets filled up, an interesting group of teams have made it to the final 8. The Portland Trail Blazers, The San Antonio Spurs, The L.A Clippers, Oklahoma City Thunder, The Indiana Pacers, The Washington Wizards, The Brooklyn Nets, and The Miami Heat. The first round was full of exciting combinations with five of the eight brackets going to game seven. Sadly, the Houston Rockets could only survive until game six agai
