HSD Sports & NBA Playoffs
By: Abel Mendez
With the year coming to a
close, Harmony School of Discovery has wrapped up all its sports
seasons. With the boys soccer
team making it to regionals, all the
glory has been bestowed upon
them. However, HSD had more
than one successful team. Two in
fact! The girls volleyball and girls
soccer teams get their own fame
in this edition. Plus the NBA
Playoffs with opinions from the
student body on this years exciting playoff brackets.
Even though its been a
couple of months, it’s still worth
remembering that the girls volleyball team came in 4th place at

regionals, this year proved to
show much improvement over
past years. Even team captains,
Jocelyn Mata and Calise Moore,
admit that they had low hopes
going into the season, they felt
like overlooked underdogs. When
asked, the team captains credit
their success to, “Working hard,
listening to our coach, each other,
and learning to be coachable.”
Poor chemistry caused by internal
turmoil was a problem for the
team. However, the team captains
would not let this phase them. The
team persevered and the girls
volleyball team triumphed to take
4th in regionals which is the best
in HSD history.
Everybody knows about
the boys soccer team and their
epic season, but the girls soccer
team earned much deserved glory
too. Coming in at 3rd place in the
league and just one victory away

from taking the second place spot in
the league, they deserve recognition
for this achievement. Many factors
held them back such as having a
losing start and lack of funds. But
through defeat the team became
closer. The team captains’ Leyla Tulumovic and Farah Benamars goal
was, “To create more team chemistry”. A mix of high school and middle
school students made up the school
team which played against challenging opponents such as; Harmony
School of Advancement and Bob
Hope High School. The end of the
season resulted in an impressive
record at four wins and four losses,
ending the season shy of a regional
title. The team has high expectations
for next year.

With the semifinal brackets

The Portland Trail Blazers, The San
Antonio Spurs, The L.A Clippers,
