End of the Road
By: Tonya Dancer
This issue marks the last
column from me and the
beginning of summer vacation. What will you be
doing
this
summer?
I hope it is more than just
sitting around the house
playing with your cell
phones or video games.
I have declared this summer as “Operation Fun in
the Sun” and have
planned several activities
for my family and me. In
addition to going to the
beach, the neighborhood
pool, and the traditional
waterparks I will be taking
advantage of several other adventures around
Houston and beyond like
free concerts, museums,
kayaking and
ice
cream
tours. Want some
ideas on what to do
this summer?

Great Impacts
By: Marilyn Benavides
As we grow people come into
our lives that leave great impacts. My
parents have made and are still making
great impacts in my life. They have always been there for me when I needed
them. They changed my life in a way
that I will forever be grateful. Harmony
students share who has had an impact
in their life.
Cynthia Villa, 7th Grade- “Her
name is Faduma. She's one of my closest friends. I can tell her about anything.
She cares about me like an older sister,
I’m glad to have her in my life. I was
going through a lot last summer and
she came to my house. She talked me
out of doing a stupid thing. She’s a
great friend.”
Rapkat Amin, 11th Grade- “My
brother because everything I’m doing
right now are the exact same things my
brother was doing at my age. When he
gave me advice, I ignored him and did-
n’t listen, but I learned a lot from his actions. When I got older, I found myself
following my brother’s path, but of course
not all the way through but it influenced
me in a significant way. I didn’t always
listen when he told me what to do, and
showed me what to do. I wasn’t thinking.
But now, when I got older and I started to
view things differently, I realized that
everything I’m doing is the things he told
me and showed me. My brother has set
my future in a good way.”
Ruby Beascochea, 2nd Grade“My sister has changed my life because
she takes care of me. She always looks
out for me. She’s the best sister I could
ever ask for. My sister works so that she
can buy me things that I want. She’s a
very good sister who has and will forever
change my life.”
Jonathan Delgadillo, 9th Grade“My grandpa has always been there for
my
mom,
brothers,
and
me.

Food for Thought
By: Leojay Arbilo
“Everywhere that consists of fattening food,” is the consensus of eighth
grader Martin Gonzalez, who loves to eat
fast food. America lives and breathes
fast food. The country can’t sustain its
existence without it; and apparently, neither can the students at Harmony School
of Discovery. The students at HSD share
a fondness for all types of fast food from
burritos and burgers to tater tots and
tacos. The charts below represent the
student bodies love of fast food.
A survey was conducted in
which students selected Yes, No, or
Sometimes to eating fast food. The results were an overwhelming “YES” for
fast food.
In opposition to fast food, some
students had their own contrasting
views against the trend. In a recent
study conducted on the HSD student
body, 3% of the students said No to
eating fast food. “I do not want to get
fat. (Instead I eat) Oranges,” states Kindergartener Aleena Saleem. Third grader Michael Davies shares his objection
for fast food, “Because I want to be a
body builder. (Instead I eat) Protein; a
lot of meat.” Despite the negativism towards fast food, it is clear that the majority of the HSD student body is infatuated with fast food and aren’t ashamed
of it. In the words of seventh grader
Ilham Farehan, “I honestly don’t care
what people think, but food is my best
friend, and I’m always hungry!”
