Matthew Watts on his way to the Gold Cup duly took second in both races , while Graham Pattle ( Lotus Cortina ) and Peter Hallford ( Ford Mustang ) each had a podium visit .
Out early in the first race went title leader Mike Gardiner after a tangle at Cascades and subsequent loss of oil pressure forced him to switch his Lotus Cortina off and cruise into retirement . Meanwhile , Harry Phelps again starred with some spirited handling of his Ford Anglia as he battled against the Lotus Cortina pack .
A bumper grid of Historic Formula Ford 2000s was rather split up in the opener by a start line tangle that eliminated several cars , fortunately without injury . Graham Fennymore fended off the attack of Benn Simms on the opening lap of the re-start with Simms having a quick spin . Fennymore went clear at a canter from Drew Cameron and a slightly subdued Andrew Park . In the second race , Simms started from the back after retiring from the opener and stormed through to third place , but Fennymore and Park were too far up the road for him to get any further . Cameron took fourth but had his hands full of the hugely impressive Molly Dodd , who worked her Royale up to a fighting fifth place with the drive of the race .
Clive Richards was the star of the Formula Junior pack , winning both races in fine style on Sunday afternoon . In the first race Mark Shaw was one of the first to find the oil and after two big moments decided to pit and get the team to check that all was well with the Brabham BT6 . Instead , Nick Fennell and Adrian Russell brought their Lotuses up to complete the podium . Nic Carlton-Smith underlined his title favourite status with another class win , while Justin Fleming was best of the front-engined pack in his Lola Mk2 . At the end of the afternoon Richards did it again as Shaw led the chase in second and Stuart Jones came up to a fine third in his Lotus 20 / 22 . Carlton-Smith achieved his weekend ’ s target of another double class win to further tighten his grip on the overall title .
No one had any answer to the pace of Jeremy Timms in Historic Formula 3 and he put himself back into contention for the title with two commanding victories over a good looking field . However , things were far from settled behind Timms as Ian Bankhurst , Christoph Widmer and Simon Armer had two wonderful battles .
In the first race , Widmer led into what proved to be the final lap , only for Bankhurst to dive down the inside at Old Hall . Widmer went briefly back ahead

before Bankhurst got the lead back and , believing there was another lap to go , Widmer did not defend too hard when Armer stole ahead further around what proved to be the final lap . However , the three cars crossed the line split by half a second in a fabulous finish . Timms again stormed clear in the second race as battle was rejoined but with Armer out mid-race it was Bankhurst who again just fended off Widmer to take another second place .
The bumper Historic Road Sports pack had a single longer race on Sunday and it was Kevin Kivlochan who got the jump from the start by putting his AC Cobra ahead of the Lotus Elan of constant rival John Davison . That ’ s how they finished with Rupert Ashdown ’ s Elan rounding out the overall podium in third , albeit some way back .
