However , all was not well in the lead car as concern over engine temperature forced Newall to ease his pace and short shift in search of a fourth straight Guards Trophy win . Up to second with a stirring drive came the B8 of Westie and Ben Mitchell , with Ben doing a fine second stint and setting fastest lap in the process . Meanwhile , Jason and Guy Minshaw brought their B8 into third on its first race for six years . The Tustings slipped to fifth behind Mark Colman ’ s B8 , while John Davison again topped the GT runners in his Lotus Elan 26R .
There was a prestigious trophy awaiting the aggregate winner of the Historic Formula Ford races and that honour fell to Tom McArthur , who duly claimed the Paul Simms Memorial Trophy with two hard fought wins . McArthur had things easier in the first race once he had escaped the clutches of Horatio Fitz- Simon and Callum Grant , leaving them to battle mightily for second .

The second race later on Sunday was a stunner and it was much , much closer at the front as McArthur was never able to make the break as Grant and Fitz-Simon fought him all the way to the flag . There was little more than a 10th of a second in it as Grant chased McArthur over the line in a thrilling finish . Samuel Harrison
and Danny Stanzl were the best of the rest in their Eldens .
Warren Briggs was also a double winner in Historic Touring Cars despite the very best efforts of Neil Wood and his mighty Anglia , which kept the Mustang under constant pressure across both of Monday ’ s races . Wood
