Southsea MC Historic Plum Pudding Trial – 27 December 2022 at Head Down , Buriton , Hampshire .
Once again the final event of the 2022 Historic Sporting Trials Series was in the capable hands of Southsea Motor Club with the co-operation of 750 Motor Club . The harsh weather throughout December , initially Arctic conditions followed by a monsoon quantity of rain , had left the ground very slippery in the chalk woodland .
Over 50 entries were received by the closing date but broken cars , Covid and winter flu reduced the number of starters to 43 . Thanks to efficient scrutineering , documentation and the early arrival of competitors and we were on the hills by 10.15am . The call for marshals had been well received and a minimum of two
officials were on each hill .
Early retirements were Clive Tizzard sharing his Cannon with Dave Methley . They managed to get the car firing on all four for scrutineering but couldn ’ t encourage the BMC engined car to climb any hills . It was good to see Dave trialling again and let ’ s hope this is the restart of his trials career . Richard Flanagan in the Puma Cannon broke a half shaft at the end of the first round so spent the rest of the day watching his son Stuart in his Post Historic Facksimile .
Minor adjustments to the sections for
round two just mixed the results a little and at lunch the Historics were being led by John Fack still on zero whilst Jerome Fack had slipped behind Alex Bamberg . In the Post Historics , Stuart Flanagan had moved ahead of Graham Wilson by just one mark .
The final round featured some more serious changes to the sections , but low scores continued to be the order of the day . By 4pm the results were announced and everyone was on their way home . In all it was a great trial and a super way to finish the year .
